Wool Work

Over the years my immediate goals have changed but I continue to work with cloth, color, texture, line and stitching as my means of expression. Lately I have been working with wool fabrics to create a series of functional throws, bed quilts, pillows and small upholstered furniture. 

My 100% wool quilts are energy efficient, lightweight and also embody the notion of recycling. These wool quilts can be made to your personal needs. Placed on a leather chair, couch, hassock or bed, they complete your room. 

The patchwork is made from previously worn garments which are washed before piecing into new designs. The batting will always be 100% new wool as will the backing. The thread used to construct the patches is 100% cotton, high quality sewing machine thread. I use embroidery to embellish all of the pieces and also hand quilt the throws and larger bed sized quilts. I personally make all of these items in my small studio. Wool is a wonderful fiber to work with and I like the concept of recycling to produce items that are both functional and attractive. 

Given the nature of the recycled wool, this work is all one-of-a-kind. However, substitutions of fabrics can be made to suit your color needs. Sizes and styles can be re-arranged and clients’ personal needs can be met to accommodate commissions. One way to personalize a commission is to make refrence to American quilting traditions by including family garments in the piece. The throws and bed sized quilts are ready to hang on a wall or can simply be draped on an appropriate piece of furniture for display. My “wool work” fits in with other “green” products and is enhanced by pairing it with either hand-made or commercially made fine furniture.
